MEDICAL NUTRITION THERAPY (MNT ) FOR DIABETICS-
have breakfast,lunch &dinner.
5 servings of fruits &vegetables daily.
Alcohol best avoided but if ever having it..women can have not more than 1 peg &men not more than 2 pegs/day &must follow it with a meal.on empty stomach it may lead to nocturnal hypoglycemia ie sugar-levels dropping at night in sleep which can lead to serious health hazards.
Maintain a food journal,record &review what u ate in a day.
Walk for 10-15 mins after 30mins of having food (can walk at home also).
Prepare less food at home.
Have low fat diet.
no milk &milk products.
Have high fibre diet like broccoli,cauliflower.
Saturated fats >7% of total calories.
Diet cholesterol in whole eggs so have less than 200mg/day.but have whole eggs as yolk has essential B vitamins.
No chips,trans fats.
Can have 2 or more servings of fish/day but not fish fillets
(avoid fish &prawns in monsoon as it is their breeding season)
No high protein diet for weight-loss.Reduce protein intake to improve renal function.
Check ur BP,Hba1c &Lipid Profile every 3 months &see ur diabetologist with the reports.

WHEN EATING OUT:-
Avoid-upsizing any meal,unlimited buffets &thalis.
Start with soup &salads (steamed in monsoon)
Never go directly to main-course.
Enjoy ur meal but pack extra food instead of
over-eating.
Remmember fresh food is best &
food stored in refrigerator or freezer is better than having food with preservatives stored at  room temperature.
